The History of the Wellington – Oro Mine and Mills

Presented by Bill Fountain
Originating as gold mines in the 1880s, by the early 1900s they were consolidated and became one of the largest zinc mines in the country.  In Summit County, the Wellington-Oro produced the most ore ($20M), operated the longest, employed the greatest number of men (and some women), was the most profitable and paid the highest amount of dividends to their stockholders, 2.4 million dollars.  View photographs never seen by the public.
